Company Background
Galbraith Builders is a full service design-build firm
located in Durango, Colorado, building homes throughout La Plata
County. We have over 35 years experience providing complete design
and turn-key construction of high quality custom homes. As the
leading design/builder in Durango, we have over 47 custom homes to
our credit.
The majority of our projects are design/build of
one-of-a-kind custom homes. The design concept,
design development, and all architectural working drawings are
produced in-house. Each home is fully engineered from the foundation
to the roof by a local, licensed structural engineering firm, which
has engineered over thirty-five homes for us. We prefer to work as a
design-builder, because many years of experience have shown this
method to be advantageous for both our clients and ourselves.
Galbraith Builders has enthusiastically embraced green
building practices – our projects exceed the standards set by Built
Green Colorado and Energy Star. Our commitment to green building begins
with the initial site planning, and carries through to the final
finishes used in the house. The net effect is a house that has been
built without harming our environment, is more energy efficient, and is
overall a more pleasant, satisfying structure to live in. We have
extensive training in solar and geothermal technologies and we encourage
our clients to explore these options.
Our goal is to design and build
unique, interesting homes built with the best materials and careful
workmanship so they will last many years with a minimum of
maintenance. We take great pride in our attention to detail, knowing
that finish detail is one of the things that helps give our homes
distinction and added interest.
Pre-Purchase Property Evaluation
We are available to help you analyze a property for
infrastructure concerns such as water, power, roads, and
construction feasibility. There is no charge for this assistance.
Timber Frame Construction
Timber framing is a good option for those who enjoy the
beauty and craftsmanship of exposed wood posts, beams, and rafters. A
timber frame home can offer a distinctive look above and beyond
conventional stick framing and can facilitate the use of energy
efficient enclosures such as Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs).
Galbraith Builders has established a business relationship with
Mancos-based timber frame company, Wind River Timberframes, to offer
this option to clients.
F.A.Q.
We live outside of the Durango area. Should we be concerned about being absent during the construction of our home?
Certainly not. Most of our projects have been built for absentee owners. We have a very organized system of documenting decisions and changes, and we send digital photos frequently to allow our clients to follow the progress of their home. We have a recommended schedule for periodic visits by clients to do on-site walk throughs.
How long will it take to design and engineer our house, and how long to construct it once design is complete?
Most projects can be designed and engineered ready for construction within a three to four month period. A 3,000 square foot home usually takes between seven to ten months to build.
How much will it cost to build our house?
This depends on many factors: size, complexity, finish materials, site considerations, etc. Once we get to meet with you and tour some of our completed homes, we will have a better understanding of what you want to build. Then we will be able to give you an estimate of costs and scheduling.
Do you build a variety of styles and sizes?
We have built homes from 1,200 to 12,000 sq. ft. Size doesn't matter to us. We have designed and built homes with a diverse range of building styles and methods.
What influences your clients to hire you, versus your competition?
There are only a few true design/builders in the Durango area. Of these, we have the most extensive track record and enjoy a solid reputation for producing fine quality homes. The level of care and attention goes well beyond what builders normally offer. Our clients are typically looking for unique design and careful construction at a reasonable cost.
How can we get more information regarding your company?
Contact us through email, postal mail, or phone and we will send you more information and can schedule a meeting with you and a tour of some homes (see contact page).
